What is cavitation in hot water system?

Cavitation occurs when air, steam, or thermal fluid vapor accumulates in a fluid. When cavitation occurs, air bubbles continuously form and collapse (implode) in the liquid. This generates noise and can lead to damage in the installation. Air can damage the pump, so it is important to install a flange on the hot water cylinder.
